BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio — The Ohio Valley Mall is boasting a slew of new stores this fall on the heels of an economic downturn in traditional retail.
Cafaro Company Spokesman Joe Bell says it’s difficult across the nation in this current economic environment to find replacements for stores that have fallen on hard times and forced to close.
But, the Cafaros have done just that in bringing a handful of new stores to the OV Mall in just a matter of months.
The Cafaro Company is giving the credit in reeling in new stores to its real estate leasing executives.
“They’ve been blessed with a little bit of foresight and a lot of determination,” Bell said. “And they’ve been working very diligently to try to work ahead at stores that may be exhibiting signs of early weakness.”
While Bell says ongoing discussions with companies may not turn into something bigger right away, it’s critical to establish relationships with retailers.
That’s proven with the addition of a handful of new stores — Marshalls, Sweet Treats, Division 1 Donuts, Levin Furniture, and Tilt Studios, an arcade set to open in the first quarter of next year.
“That’s five that are underway right now that are either open or are on the brink of opening,” Bell said. “And we’re looking at other potential uses for some space that we have.”
Bell says additional announcements may come about in the next 3-to-6 months.
